The Carlson family gets a chance to experience the fun and flashy 1980s, the first decade with technology and food that they are accustomed to — for the most part.

The Carlson family steps into their fifth decade of the experiment to experience all the fun and flash of a 1980s winter. Melanie struggles to whip up a gourmet meal, calling for back-up when faced with having to prepare whole shrimp.

A fancy piece of winter tech saves Dave's back, and helps him take on a driveway full of snow. Wearing the hottest in '80s one-piece winter fashion, Melanie and Dave try their hand at downhill skiing, while teens Lauren, Alex and Chelsey enjoy all the fun the decade has to offer, including lessons from a hockey legend, colourful cereals, and the hottest eighties dance moves.

The decade ends on a high-note with a visit from 1988 Calgary Olympics figure-skating medallist, Liz Manley.
