Meet Apollo, a rescued wild stallion who's learning to trust humans again
Under the care of Whispering Hearts Horse Rescue, he’s getting a new lease on life
"I always rescue the horses that no one wants," says Brenda Thompson, owner of Whispering Hearts Horse Rescue. Here she's referring to Apollo, an injured and abandoned stallion she rescued from an auction farm — a place where horses are often sold, shipped for slaughter and eventual human consumption.
Apollo is one of the wildest horses Brenda has ever encountered. Blind in one eye and terrified of humans, he refused to be led by anyone in his first few months at the shelter, and still flinches when Brenda tries to stroke the blind side of his face. Lately though, he's been showing signs of progress — even eating from Brenda's hand from time to time! — and slowly but surely that trust in humans is being rebuilt.
