100 Mile House fire contained: officials
Blaze in Lillooet area continues to grow
An evacuation order has been lifted in B.C.'s central Interior now that a blaze near 100 Mile House is under control.
Officials said fire crews managed to contain the 150-hectare Buffalo Creek fire Sunday afternoon. The 54 people ordered out of their homes Friday were being allowed to return, although they remained on evacuation alert.
The B.C. Forest Service said lower temperatures and light winds allowed them to gain control of the fire. More than 80 firefighters are expected to stay at the scene to douse hotspots.
Two buildings were destroyed when the blaze broke out Friday.
Second fire spreads
Elsewhere, a fire about 150 kilometres south of 100 Mile House grew on Sunday.
The blaze, 65 km west of Lillooet, was discovered late Friday. It is also estimated to cover about 150 hectares, and fire officials say they're concerned about structures nearby.
On Saturday, 38 firefighters arrived at the scene, along with a helicopter and six air tankers. Another 18 firefighters and a second helicopter were expected to arrive Sunday.
Officials say the fire was caused by someone, but details are still under investigation.
Officials are urging the public to be extremely cautious due to dry, hot and windy conditions.
