Police in Surrey, B.C., say an Abbotsford man has died after a shooting in the Fleetwood neighbourhood on Wednesday afternoon.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) confirmed the man's identity as Satwinder Sharma, 56.

"Mr. Sharma was at his place of work at the time of the shooting and he had no criminal history," said an IHIT statement released Thursday.

The release said no one else was injured from the shooting and, so far, Sharma appears to have been targeted.

"IHIT continues to work closely with Mr. Sharma's family and our thoughts are with them during this very difficult time," said Sgt. Freda Fong.

The Surrey Police Service (SPS) said officers were called to the 15900 block of 84 Avenue around 3:45 p.m. PT following reports of a shooting.

They found a man suffering from life-threatening injuries, who died despite life-saving efforts from officers.

IHIT has taken charge of the investigation.

Surrey police say it is the city's third recorded homicide of the year.
