IHIT investigating Surrey house fire after dead man found inside home
2-alarm blaze broke out just before 12:30 a.m. Thursday
RCMP say the scene of an overnight house fire in Surrey is being handed over to homicide investigators after the discovery of a dead man inside.
Fire crews were called to the fire on the 12300 block of 112A Street just before 12:20 a.m. PT Thursday.
Crews rescued one woman from the house and another man escaped unharmed.
Fire crews called Surrey RCMP 20 minutes later who discovered a dead man inside the residence.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team was called in and determined the man had died under suspicious circumstances. The cause of the fire was also suspicious.
It is unclear at this time whether the death was related to the fire.
IHIT says it has one individual in custody.
At this stage of the investigation, IHIT says the incident is not random and the individuals are known to each other.
