Man hospitalized after crashing through Vancouver building
Officials say the man's injuries appear to be minor
A Vancouver business is missing a couple of walls after a man drove a sport utility vehicle through the building early Friday morning.
It happened around 1 a.m. PT on 6th Ave. near Birch Street.
The black Audi SUV struck the northeast corner of The Urban Puppy Shop after it appears to have veered off the road.
The driver was able to walk away from the crash, before he was taken to hospital with minor injuries, according to officials.
A witness who saw the vehicle shortly before the crash said the driver seemed to be going very fast.
"He was driving erratically, and I definitely was keeping back from him, I didn't want to get too close and get beside him," said the woman, who declined to give her name.
Neighbour Les Schweitzer said the sound of the crash woke him up.
"At first I thought some scaffolding fell down, it was one of those kind of noises," said Schweitzer. "It sounded like a building falling down."
Schweitzer said these kinds of incidents happen in the area too often.
"This particular stretch of road, you do get a lot of people speeding on it, especially when the traffic volume is light, this time of night, so you have to be careful."
