Knight St. was closed after 5 a.m. PT on Sunday as rescuers worked to extricate the woman after a car hit a tree so hard the engine ejected from the wreckage and smashed into the window of a house.

The accident that happened near 33rd Ave. blocked southbound traffic until police and firefighters freed the 20-year-old from the mangled Volkswagen and cleared the scene.

The woman was transported to hospital with serious injuries. Her current condition and the cause of the crash have not been released.
