Police are investigating a shooting incident at a bakery in the 18700-block of Fraser Highway in Surrey, B.C.

Several people called 911 reporting that they heard gunshots just after 2 a.m. Sunday, according to Surrey RCMP.

"On our arrival, we found that the building behind us, COBS Bread, had been struck by several bullets," said Sgt. David MacDonald, who added that one bullet went through a window, but didn't hit the baker working inside.

"At this point, we don't have a victim at all. Certainly nobody in the immediate vicinity was injured, and given what we can see at scene, it doesn't appear that anybody has been injured," said MacDonald.

Several witnesses who were on the opposite side of the building said they heard multiple shots, including Art Gairns who was outside Dublin Crossing Irish Pub at the time.

"I heard a bunch of bangs, and I was kind of taken by surprise to be honest," said Gairns.

"It sounded sort of like the sounds of fire crackers, but a lot louder and different than that."

Gairns said he heard six to eight shots in very rapid succession, but didn't see anyone flee the area.

"I was quite concerned about it," said Gairns.

"It was just a shock to hear the gunshots, the sounds, you know?"

Police said at this point, the incident appeared to have been a random shooting, and unrelated to a string of targeted attacks connected to a drug turf war in Surrey.

Nearby car crash

Moments after the gunfire, there was a car crash just three blocks away, in the 18400-block of Fraser Highway.

Sgt. MacDonald said that incident appears to be unrelated to the shooting.

"At this point, from everything we've been able to determine, that motor vehicle accident was not related to this matter whatsoever."
