Star Wars Night turns Vancouver Giants into Stormtroopers
The Western Hockey League team has revealed their jerseys for a themed game night on December 4
The Vancouver Giants have unveiled their new uniforms for a special Star Wars-themed game on December 4.
The Western Hockey League club will be tapping into their alternate personas as a lean, mean, force-awakening team of... Stormtroopers.
Media spokesperson Brendan Batchelor says the players happily embraced the opportunity to wear the Star Wars jerseys.
"With the way they look, the matching white pant shield and everything. I know that they think they look really cool and they're all really excited to wear them," he said.
The jerseys were designed in conjunction with ™Lucasfilm Ltd. © as part of a benefit game.
In an email to CBC, Chris Argyropoulos, a publicist for the San Francisco-based film company says they help "ensure accuracy" with design when it comes to partnerships like these.
All the game-worn jerseys will be auctioned off with proceeds going to the Shriners of B.C. and Yukon, which provides specialist medical care to disadvantaged children.
Attendees of the game can also expect to see other surprise Star Wars characters roam the crowds that night, although the Giants' opponents on December 4, the Kootenay Ice, will be wearing their usual jerseys.
Meanwhile, Star Wars fans in Saskatchewan can get their kicks on November 28, when the Saskatoon Blades will be wearing a scene from the ice-planet Hoth in their game against the Edmonton Oil Kings.
They look even better on the players! <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/starwars?src=hash">#starwars</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/force?src=hash">#force</a> <a href="https://t.co/ndbtVKoN98">pic.twitter.com/ndbtVKoN98</a>
