According to Zhou, her husband first tried to hold the door closed against the intruder, shouting to the rest of the family to hide. When Hill couldn't hold the door any longer, he led the intruder outside, to give Zhou and the children time to hide.
After that, Hill was shot and died, while the assailant fled in a stolen vehicle.
Khouri Lamar Green, 22 at the time, was later arrested in Burnaby while allegedly attempting to break into another home.
He is scheduled to appear this morning in Surrey Provincial Court. He also faces three other charges in relation to Hill's death, including break and enter to commit an indictable offence and use of firearms.
If convicted he could face life in prison.
