One person was taken to hospital, following an incident outside an engagement party in South Vancouver late Friday night, according to the B.C. Ambulance Service.

Witnesses told CBC News that a young woman was attacked outside the Fraserview Banquet Hall at 8240 Fraser St., just after 11 p.m PT.

Vicky Bhullar was working as a security guard at the gathering, when someone informed him of a fight outside.

When Bhullar went outside, he found people throwing glasses from the second floor balcony, in an apparent effort to thwart an attack below.

"I quickly ran downstairs and I saw there was a big knife in the parking lot, and the girl was bleeding," said Bhullar. "It was like a big machete. A huge knife. It was like a sword."

"I went and I talked to [the victim] and she's like, there were two guys who jumped on her and they stabbed her," he said.

Bhullar said the young woman was crying, and speaking on the phone with police. He said she was bleeding from her arm.

Witnesses said neither the woman, nor the alleged attackers appeared to be attending the 500-person party.

Bhullar said the men quickly fled in a grey Honda sedan, before police arrived.

A few minutes later, a car matching the description was involved in a stabbing and pepper spray incident at Victoria Street and 49th Avenue.

It is not clear if the incidents are connected.
