Calgary police took a 19-year-old driver into custody after a chain-reaction crash damaged seven parked vehicles early Friday morning near Chinook Centre.

Police say a man was driving a 2018 BMW M5 at "a high rate of speed" northbound on Macleod Trail S.W.

Just after 2 a.m., police say the driver tried to turn west onto 58 Avenue S.W. to evade a traffic stop.

The BMW then struck the rear of one vehicle parked on the curb, sending other parked vehicles crashing into one another. In total, seven parked vehicles were damaged.

Charges are still pending and have not yet been announced, but police say "excessive speed and impairment" are believed to be factors.

They are now appealing to any witnesses or anyone with footage of the crash to call police at 403-266-1234, or submit tips anonymously to Crime Stoppers.
