Man who repeatedly flew large drone around Calgary still sought by police

Calgary police are still asking the public to help identify a man who was seen illegally operating a large drone in May and June — posing a danger to aircraft — and then again on Canada Day.

Same man believed to be involved in dangerous remote-controlled flights in Crescent Heights and near airport

Calgary police are still asking the public to help identify a man who was seen illegally operating a large drone in May and June — posing a danger to aircraft — and then again on Canada Day.

In the latest case, the man was spotted operating the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) from a green space near 1201 Crescent Road N.E. at about 11:30 p.m. on July 1.

He was seen flying a drone in the same area around 4:10 p.m. on June 1.

Around 2:10 p.m. on May 31, police believe the same man flew a drone near the McCall Lake Golf Course in the city's northeast, near the airport.

Police said in a release the drone "was seen encroaching into the flight path for aircraft coming into and out of Calgary International Airport."

The man was described as being middle-aged, having black hair and wearing light-coloured clothing.

Anyone information about these incidents or the identity of the man is asked to call police 403-266-1234 or email uav@calgarypolice.ca.
