Car2Go may get dedicated parking spots after complaints
City says it has received complaints the cars take up too many parking spots downtown
The City of Calgary is trying to respond to complaints that Car2Go vehicles are taking up too many parking spots downtown.
The Calgary Parking Authority says it is now looking at ways to free up parking downtown by finding select spots for Car2Go users to park. Officials say they are looking at requiring users to park the cars near corners and other areas that are not often used.
"Generally there's not room for a larger car [there,]" said Wes Hogman, interim general manager of the Calgary Parking Authority. "Because they're small and quite low, we're looking at the possibility of actually fitting [Car2Go vehicles] in there and requiring them to park there."
Hogman says a move like that would free of parking for larger vehicles further down the road.
He is consulting with the city's transportation department but says the idea is still under discussion.
