3 charged after plaques stolen from northwest Calgary cemetery
Roughly 300 plaques taken from Queen's Park Cemetery in August, police said
Calgary police have charged three people with possession of stolen property after hundreds of plaques were reported missing from a northwest cemetery in August.
The accused have each been charged with one count of possession of stolen property valued at over $5,000.
Police said that sometime between Aug. 18 and Aug. 23, three people went to the Queen's Park Cemetery at 3219 Fourth Street N.W. and removed approximately 300 bronze plaques commemorating deceased loved ones.
It's alleged they also stole numerous bronze flower vases.
Police were working with scrap metal buyers and had asked them to be on the lookout for the plaques. Melting them down could result in fines, police said.
At the time, investigators believed the plaques were stolen in hopes of selling the bronze.
