Severe thunderstorm warnings have been issued for areas surrounding Edmonton, Environment Canada said Wednesday.

Shortly after 2 p.m., the weather agency said it was tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing very strong wind gusts, up to nickel size hail and heavy rain about 10 kilometres northeast of Entwistle.

The storm is moving to the east at 25 km/h.

Another severe weather storm system is located 125 kilometres east of the Swan Hills and is moving to the southeast at 30 km/h.

Heavy rain may cause flash flooding and significant reductions to visibility. Large hail may cause significant damage and injury.

Tornado watches have also been issued for areas of east-central Alberta.
