Hamilton police searching for suspect in attempted child abduction reported in Dundas
8-year-old walking dog Thursday morning was approached by man in white truck, police say

A child was almost abducted in Dundas, Hamilton police say, and officers continue searching for the suspect.
The child, eight, was walking their dog at 8:20 a.m. Thursday in the area of Linington Trail and Newcombe Road, police said in a news release. A man driving a white van pulled up and got out to speak with the child.
"He made suggestions that there was candy inside the van and that the child should get in," police said.
The man also reportedly said, "I'll give you whatever you want" and reached to grab the child, said police. The child then kicked the man and ran away to safety.
The child's parents called police immediately, but the man was gone when an officer arrived.
On Friday, police spokesperson Adam Kimber said the criminal investigation branch continues to investigate.
"The detectives are still combing through video footage and canvassing for witnesses," Kimber said.
The suspect is described as being between 30 and 40 years old and clean shaven, having brown skin and thin build and wearing a white toque hat, purple t-shirt with writing on it with "N" as the first letter, and black pants and running shoes.
The white van is described as having "a back that is larger than the cab," police said.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Sgt. Paul Corrigan at 905-546-3851 or report anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
