Extreme cold warning ends for Hamilton, Niagara, Brantford and surrounding areas

Environment Canada has ended the extreme cold warning it issued Wednesday morning for Hamilton, Brantford, Niagara, Haldimand County, Caledonia, Burlington and Norfolk County.

This morning the weather agency said the areas could expect wind chill values near -30 Wednesday morning but the extreme cold would come to an end later this morning.

"An Arctic air mass is bringing bitterly cold wind chills to the area," said Environment Canada in a news release early Wednesday morning. "Temperatures will moderate later this morning."

The weather agency says to watch for cold-related symptoms.

These include shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes. It also advises people to dress warmly and wear an outer layer that is wind resistant.

Environment Canada says to check on older family, friends and neighbours and to not let your pet stay outside for long periods of time.
