Here are some of the activities happening around Hamilton this Canada Day.

People living in Hamilton and surrounding areas will join Canadians far and wide for Canada Day celebrations this year. 

CBC News will provide live coverage throughout the day across the country beginning at 6 a.m. ET. There's more information below on how you can follow.

Here are some of the activities happening around Hamilton. 

Free Canada Day extravaganza 

The City of Hamilton is throwing a free Canada Day extravaganza, an "unforgettable day of fun, food, and festivity in the heart of Hamilton" for the whole family at Bayfront Park. The city is promising a day packed with delightful children's recreation and arts activities that will spark creativity and keep kids entertained.  

Fireworks in the city

When the sun sets, the City of Hamilton wants you to "stick around for the grand finale." At 10 p.m., a "spectacular custom fireworks display" will light up the night sky.

It's Your Festival 

It's Your Festival will hold its final day of festivities at Gage Park on Canada Day. With a jam-packed lineup of music, entertainment, art, and food, It's Your Festival says it has something for everyone. The festival is open 12 p.m. to 11 p.m on Canada Day.

Music in the park in Dundas

Dundas Community Services invites you to come out to the Dundas Driving Park for a Canada Day summer concert, where the Dundas Concert Band will play a variety of tunes. The DCB Brass Quintet will also be performing. The concert will be held from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Canada Day Military Tattoo

Dundurn National Historic Site at 610 York Boulevard will be the venue for an evening of fun and music from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.. This family-friendly event features a performance by the Regimental Band of the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry, the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders of Canada Pipes & Drums, and the Argyllshire Dancers. Attendees are encouraged to bring their lawn chair.

Canadians aren’t always known for wearing their pride on their sleeves, but the recent trade war with the United States could be changing attitudes. Daisy Raphael from Huron University and Bradley Miller spoke to The Early Edition on what it means to be Canadian and how it's changed over the years.

Outdoor and wading pools

With a high of 27 C expected, a swim might be a good option. Outdoor pools are open for the season, with daily drop-in swims available through Sept. 1, weather permitting. Locations include:

Wading pools

Families with young children can beat the heat at supervised wading pools. Locations include:

  • Andy Warburton Wading Pool.
  • Dundas Driving Park *open June 23 to Sept. 1.
  • Gage Park.
  • J.C. Beemer Park.
  • Jesse Patterson (Huntington Recreation Centre).
  • Powell Park. 

Celebrate Canada Day with the City of Burlington

Activities for the day will be held at Spencer Smith Park. The lineup includes:

  • 8:30 a.m. Kick off the day with the VRPRO Canada Day 5K Run.
  • Pre-registration required.  
  • 12 p.m. Free Yoga in the Park at the Compass near the West Lawn.
  • 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. Food & Marketplace vendors. 
  • 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. – Kids Zone. Sing along with The Whoopsie Daisies and Noise Pollution Rock Band and catch the fun antics of Juggler Ben. There will be a special appearance by the Burlington Teen Tour Band – Drum Line at 2:20 p.m..
  • 4:00 p.m. Opening Ceremonies led by the Burlington Teen Tour Band 
  • 6:30 p.m. Lucky Honey. 
  • 8 p.m. My Son the Hurricane. 
  • 9:40 p.m. Drone Show.
  • 10 p.m. Fireworks Finale. 

Canada Day in Niagara Falls

Canada Day in Niagara Falls will feature fireworks, illumination and extended hours. The special Canada Day fireworks show will start at 10 p.m. The falls will also be illuminated in Red & White to celebrate Canada Day at the top of the hour, every hour.
