Here's what's open and closed in Hamilton on Canada Day 2025
City services will pause for the holiday — but pools are open, and fireworks are returning to Bayfront Park
Tuesday, July 1, is Canada Day — and that means changes to municipal services, transit, and hours for popular sites in Hamilton.
Here's what you need to know:
Waste and Recycling

No curbside pickup of garbage, recycling, green bins, or yard waste on Tuesday.

Collection will shift forward by one day for the rest of the week.

Community recycling centres will be closed and reopen Wednesday at 8 a.m.
Transit

HSR buses will run on a Sunday/holiday schedule, with most final trips downtown around midnight.

myRide Trans-Cab (Waterdown) will not operate.

DARTS will operate on a holiday schedule; all subscription trips are cancelled except dialysis, which must be booked in advance.
Parking

Municipal parking enforcement will be paused before 10 a.m., but the city warns of proactive enforcement in busy areas or near fireworks events.

The municipal parking office will be closed for the day.
Recreation and Parks

All city recreation centres and arenas will be closed on Canada Day.

Outdoor pools will be open during regular hours, weather permitting

Canada Day Fireworks

Trail access to Bayfront Park's north end could be limited during the day in preparation for the evening fireworks show. Crowds are expected — plan accordingly.
