Santa Claus parade moving to the mountain this year, closing some roads
The parade starts at 2 p.m. on Saturday
The Santa Claus parade is on Saturday, but due to construction in preparation for light-rail transit, Santa will have to tour up the mountain this year.
The yearly parade is starting on Upper Sherman Avenue and Arcadia Drive on Nov. 16 at 2 p.m.
In a news release on Tuesday, the City of Hamilton said to "expect additional traffic" the day of the parade and "exercise extra caution near the event area."
Santa will travel from Upper Sherman to Limeridge Road E., then west to Lime Ridge Mall Road and then north to the northeast corner of the Lime Ridge Mall parking lot, the city said.
As a result, several road closures will take place in the area.
- Arcadia Drive will be closed from the east intersection of Butler Drive to Upper Sherman Avenue from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Butler Drive will be closed from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Upper Sherman Avenue is closing from Limeridge Road E. to Rymal Road E. starting at 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Finally, Limeridge Road E. will be closed from Upper Sherman Avenue to Lime Ridge Mall from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Bus routes 24 and 43 will be affected by the closures and posted detours on the city's website.
Other parades coming up in surrounding areas include:
- Niagara Falls Santa Claus Parade, also on Saturday. The parade starts at 4 p.m.
- The Brantford parade will happen on Nov. 30, starting at 6 p.m.
- In Burlington, the parade has a new, shorter route and will take place on Dec. 1, starting at 2 p.m.
