A 30-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder after a senior was stabbed to death in his home, Hamilton police say.

David Gomez-Rodriguez was arrested Sunday, a week after police found Charles "Jacques" Jouvence, 74, suffering from a stab wound on his front porch, says a news release.

"Some of the details surrounding this incident are still unclear and it is believed that the accused and Jouvence were not known to each other," police say.

Police responded to a call just before 4 p.m. on March 16 at an apartment building near Hunter Street East and Spring Street where they found Jouvence.

Moments later, officers shot and injured a 30-year-old man, who was armed with a knife, police previously said.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) continues to investigate the shooting between police and the man.

Hamilton police did not confirm if the man shot was Gomez-Rodriguez. The SIU also would not say, citing privacy laws.

They're asking anyone with information to contact Hamilton investigators or Crime Stoppers.
