Man died, woman sustained serious injuries after stabbing incident
UPDATE: On July 14, 2025, Joshua Brennan pleaded guilty to manslaughter and aggravated assault and was sentenced by Superior Court Justice Anne London-Weinstein to nearly nine years in prison. With credit for the time he has already served in jail, the total sentence is about 12.5 years. He is also barred from possessing weapons for life and has to submit his DNA, among other orders.
A 37-year-old man has been arrested in relation to the death of a man who was stabbed Tuesday morning in an apartment on Saratoga Place, near the intersection of Bank Street and Hunt Club Road.
Police obtained a Canada-wide warrant for Joshua Brennan for second degree murder and attempted murder. He was arrested in Ottawa Tuesday evening.
He is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.
Emergency crews say they were called to the Saratoga Place apartment at about 1:30 a.m.
Ottawa paramedics say they took one stabbing victim from the scene to hospital in life-threatening condition. Police said the victim, a man, died in hospital.
Later that morning police identified him as 45-year-old James Samson.
Police also said they found an injured woman in her 50s at the scene when they arrived.
Paramedics said they took a second adult to the hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.
The incident happened about 10 kilometres south of downtown Ottawa.
