3 charged with fraud after $100K of new cellphones ordered from Bell Canada mailed to Kitchener home
Cellphones were shipped to a Kitchener address, police say
Three adults from Kitchener have been charged with fraud and possession of stolen property after Bell Canada reported people were impersonating company representatives and ordered more than $100,000 worth of new cellphones.
Police say between May 8 and June 20 of this year, unknown people contacted several people pretending to be Bell Canada representatives and obtained personal information.
That information was then used to order the cellphones, which were mailed to an address in Kitchener.
Bell Canada reported the suspected fraud to police on June 24.
On June 30, police completed two search warrants at homes in Kitchener. Officers seized more than $40,000 worth of property and arrested three adults.
A 37-year-old man, a 26-year-old man, and a 26-year-old woman, all from Kitchener, have been charged with:
- Fraud over $5,000.
- Possession of stolen property over $5,000.
The investigation remains ongoing. Investigators ask anyone with information to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
