Warrant issued for suspect in $130K fraud, Windsor police say

A warrant has been issued for a 38-year-old woman wanted in connection with a $130,000 financial fraud, Windsor police say.

A 38-year-old woman is wanted, Windsor police say, in connection with a $130,000 financial fraud. 

The service's financial crimes unit launched an investigation in May after receiving a report of a large-scale fraud at a currency exchange, police said in a news release Wednesday.

Officers learned that a woman entered the business, located in the 3200 block of Dougall Avenue, and used a fraudulent Canadian passport to obtain $130,000 US.

Police say a suspect, from Lowbanks, Ont., is wanted and faces several charges, including:

  • Fraud over $5,000.
  • Obtaining by false pretenses over $5,000.
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
  • Possession of another person's identification.
  • Identity theft.
  • Identity fraud.
  • Uttering a forged passport.

Police say anyone with information should contact the police's financial crimes unit or Crime Stoppers to remain anonymous.
