A man known to police was arrested early Tuesday morning in Goldie Mill Park in Guelph after he was first spotted riding a high-end mountain bike with no lights.

Two men fled into Goldie Mill Park and hid, police say

A Guelph man known to police and spotted riding a high-end mountain bike without a light is now facing multiple charges, including drugs and weapons.

Officers spotted the man just before 2 a.m. Tuesday riding a high-end DeVinci mountain bike. The bikes retail in Canada for upwards of $2,000. The one the man was riding had been reported stolen in July, police said.

The man was riding the bike with another male in the area of Eramosa Road and Arthur Street, just northwest of the downtown core. Neither bicycle had lights and when police tried to stop them, the two men fled into Goldie Mill Park.

Officers found the two men hiding in the park before the men fled again. One of them was arrested a short distance away after a struggle with police.

Police said the man was carrying drugs believed to be meth and marijuana, as well as a large, prohibited knife and a retractable baton.

The 21-year-old Guelph man has been charged with a total of 17 offences including weapons, drugs, resisting arrest and breaching court ordered condition charges.
