Police would not say whether the woman was from Guelph and would not provide further details, saying they investigate "cases that occur in our jurisdiction."

A 33-year-old Quebec man has been charged with trafficking in persons, receiving material benefit from trafficking, procuring sexual services, advertising sexual services, assault, assault with a weapon, motor vehicle theft, mischief under $5,000 and two counts of uttering death threats.

"Human trafficking is becoming a huge issue and it is occurring everywhere," Const. Mike Gatto told CBC News in an email. "This is not a big city problem."
