Police seek suspect after receiving report a youth was sexually assaulted at Cambridge park
Man pushed a female youth on a swing before sexually assaulting her, police say
Police are searching for a suspect who was in Cambridge's Soper Park in the afternoon of April 8 after receiving a report that a female youth was sexually assaulted.
The youth was on swings in the park around 3 p.m. when an unknown man approached her, police said in a release on Tuesday.
"The male spoke to the female victim, began to push her on the swing, and sexually assaulted her," police said. "There were no reported physical injuries."
Police did not say how old the youth is or whether there were potentially other witnesses in the park at the time. The media release on Tuesday "came after necessary investigative steps were taken following receipt of the report on April 11," Const. Melissa Quarrie said in an email to CBC News.
The man is described as being between 18 and 40 years old, with a heavy build, and was wearing a black-grey hoodie with the hood up. He was carrying a backpack and had white wired earbuds. He was last seen walking Dundas Street N. and Beverly Street.
Anyone who may have witnessed the interaction or have more information about this case is asked to contact the Waterloo Region Police Service's Special Victims Unit or Crime Stoppers.
