Suspect arrested in Guelph after 2 armed robberies in 2 days

A 22-year-old man has been arrested and is facing numerous charges, after he allegedly committed two armed robberies in Guelph in two days.

A 22-year-old man has been arrested and is facing numerous charges, after he allegedly committed two armed robberies in Guelph in two days.

On the afternoon of March 3, police say the man entered a store near Gordon Street and Kortright Road West in the city's south end.

He showed a black handgun, according to police, and demanded the clerk fill a garbage bag with cigarette packs.

Police say he fled on foot with about 30 packs of cigarettes valued at about $500.

According to police, the following afternoon, the same man entered a store at Harvard Road and Gordon Street, near the University of Guelph, and demanded an employee give him OxyContin pills.

Police say he showed the clerk a black handgun tucked into his waistband and left on foot with a bottle containing 100 Hydromorphone pills, which police value at $1,000.

The evening of March 4, police say, they arrested a man after finding him walking near Edinburgh Road South and Kortright Road West, wearing clothing matching that worn during the recent robbery. 

That night, police say they searched his residence and recovered several items associated with the robbery including:

  • Black imitation handgun
  • Garbage bag containing multiple unopened packs of cigarettes
  • Clothing matching the description from both robberies

He is facing the following charges:

  • Robbery With A Firearm x2
  • Disguise With Intent x2
  • Weapons Dangerous x2
  • Point Firearm
  • Breach Of Probation x2
