Man accused of killing wife after Kitchener house blast denied bail

A judge has denied bail to Udo Haan. Haan, 58, is facing a homicide charge after his wife was found dead following a house explosion in Kitchener in August.

A Kitchener judge denied bail to Udo Haan Friday morning. 

Haan, 58, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of his wife Edra Haan following a house explosion in Kitchener in August.

He was also injured in the blast and was hospitalized.

Haan appeared in a Kitchener courtroom last week in a wheelchair during his bail hearing. He also faces two counts of arson damage to property.

August morning explosion

Emergency crews were called to a home on Sprucedale Crescent in Kitchener just after 8 a.m. on Aug. 22, 2018. They found the body of 58-year-old Edra Haan in the back yard of the home.

Udo Haan was critically injured and airlifted to a Hamilton hospital.

The blast completely destroyed the family's home and damaged two neighbouring houses to the point they needed to be demolished.
