Police lay charges in apartment fire that saw occupant rappel from balcony
Police did not say whether the woman charged lived in the unit

A woman is facing charges in connection to a fire in a south London apartment tower that saw several families displaced to city shelters.
The 32-year-old from London is charged with one count of arson by negligence in the fire at the building on Ernest Avenue, near Bradley Avenue, that broke out Sunday morning.
Fire officials said there was significant damage to one apartment unit on the fifth floor, and the fire broke out in the kitchen.
One person was hospitalized with unknown injuries after being found unconscious in the apartment. Another person used a bed sheet to rappel down to a lower balcony to escape the flames. Firefighters said they were able to rescue the family's dog.

At least four families had to leave their homes due to smoke damage, finding temporary shelter at the Carling Community Centre, where the Red Cross stepped in to help.
Damage was estimated to be approximately $350,000.
The suspect is scheduled to appear in court in July.
