Two teenaged boys have been arrested and remanded in custody in connection with the death of a man from Brandon whose body was found in a western Manitoba park last week.

The man, 21, was found unresponsive at Legion Park in the town of Swan River — about 270 kilometres north of Brandon — by RCMP officers responding to a call around 11 p.m. on Friday, police said in a weekend news release.

RCMP said officers found the man who had suffered "obvious injuries." He was pronounced dead in the park.

The RCMP's major crime services and forensic identification services are investigating his death as a homicide.

On Saturday a 16-year-old boy from Swan River was arrested and charged with second-degree murder, RCMP said in an update.

A second 16-year-old boy was arrested in connection with the incident on Monday, but no charges have been laid against him yet, an RCMP spokesperson told CBC News.

The RCMP say they believe the suspects and the victim were known to each other, and the assault was not a "random attack."

Police said they continue to investigate and anyone with information is asked to contact Swan River RCMP at 204-734-4686, or anonymously via Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at manitobacrimestoppers.com.
