Recognizing Many Nations, One Heartbeat this Canada Day at The Forks
Join CBC as we celebrate all things Canada this July 1st at The Forks.
This summer, The Forks connects National Indigenous Peoples Day and Canada Day by hosting 11 days filled with activities, performances, and unique events to celebrate everything that makes Canada so special.
Starting on June 21st, The Forks welcomes the Treaty Relations Commission of Manitoba to help celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day. The day will begin with a pipe ceremony and teachings shared by Elders, and will continue with various Indigenous performers, Inuit games, a Kookum fashion show, and so much more.
From June 21st to July 1st, The Forks will focus on different treaty regions in Manitoba, to highlight their languages, traditions, and teachings. Elders will share their language and land-based teachings, and several artists and youth will share their stories about what makes these treaties so special.
On July 1st, celebrate Canada Day with festivities such as the return of dance battles, more skateboarding demonstrations with Pitikwé, a basketball tournament, as well as a visit from the critters at FortWhyte Alive, and a handmade market.
We'll be there too! With sustainable giveaways, and fun activities for the whole family.
All programming is free of charge, so be sure to stop by The Forks to honour Canada and the "Many Nations, One Heartbeat" - a celebration of the many cultures that make up Manitoba and Canada.
