Winnipeg police say they found two homemade stun guns during an arrest on Monday night.

Officers stopped a 41-year-old man in Winnipeg's North Point Douglas area around 9 p.m., because he was riding his bike contrary to Highway Traffic Act regulations, police said in a news release on Tuesday.

Police arrested the man once they realized he was wanted on a warrant, Winnipeg police Const. Pat Saydak said.

They then searched him and found two fully operational homemade Tasers, as well as a can of bear spray and a small amount of illicit drugs, he said.

"Officers on the front lines come across people that have homemade weapons on them on a regular basis," but "this incident would be uncommon. I haven't seen homemade Tasers before," Saydak said.

The man was charged with multiple drug, weapons and Highway Traffic Act-related charges, police said. He was released on two undertakings.
