RCMP arrest teen charged with 1st-degree murder in Long Plain homicide

A teenager wanted in connection with a homicide on Long Plain First Nation is now in police custody.

RCMP announced Monday they had arrested a 16-year-old suspect. The teen is charged with first-degree murder in the homicide on Aug. 5.

On Sunday, RCMP announced a warrant for the teen's arrest had been issued.

Police haven't released the name of the victim. The suspect cannot be named under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Long Plain First Nation is about 100 kilometres west of Winnipeg.

RCMP are investigating the homicide along with the Dakota Ojibway Police Service, which serves several southern Manitoba First Nation communities.
