Woman killed in alleged domestic assault, man charged with 2nd-degree murder

A 40-year-old man has been charged with homicide after a woman was killed during an alleged domestic assault at a home in north Winnipeg over the weekend.

A 40-year-old man has been charged with homicide after a woman was killed during an alleged domestic assault at a home in north Winnipeg over the weekend.

Just after 3 a.m. on Saturday morning, Winnipeg police responded to a report of a domestic assault at a Selkirk Avenue home east of McPhillips Street. 

Officers arrived to find a woman with severe injuries. She was taken to hospital in critical condition but died as a result of her injuries, police said. 

The victim was Stephanie Anderson-Paupanekis, 33, a member of Norway House First Nation who had been living in Winnipeg since last year.  

Police have charged Jason Matthew Keam, 40, with second-degree murder and he was detained in custody. Keam is also a member of Norway House First Nation residing in Winnipeg.
