Three people were taken to hospital after a stabbing at Shoppers Drug Mart on Osborne Street, Winnipeg police say.

Two of the people are now in stable condition while one requires further medical care. None of the injuries were life-threatening, police told CBC News.

"It was kind of pandemonium because everybody was standing around just trying to figure out what was going on, get out of the way of all the vehicles and everybody really didn't know what was going on," said Gail Nordal, who went to the store's vaccine clinic Sunday through a different entrance, but arrived there while first responders were on scene.

Police were called to the store at 1 p.m. Sunday, and multiple units were still at the scene later in the afternoon.

Police couldn't say whether the stabbing happened inside or outside the store, which closed following the stabbing.

Winnipeg fire paramedic staff were also at the scene, said police.

Nordal said she felt sad for people who may have witnessed the incident.

"They're probably having a hard time dealing with this," she said. "That's a pretty tough thing to experience."

A sign that says "this store is temporarily closed due to an emergency" is attached to a glass door.
