A man has been charged with attempted murder after a boy, 16, was found with a serious gunshot wound at a home in The Pas early Sunday morning, police say.

RCMP responded to a report of shots fired at a Settee Avenue home around 2:30 a.m. Sunday, police said in a news release on Monday.

Officers were directed to the basement, where they found a 16-year-old boy who had suffered a serious gunshot wound, police say. The teen was taken to hospital in critical condition, and was later sent to Winnipeg where his condition was upgraded to stable.

A man, 24, from The Pas was arrested at the scene and now faces charges of attempted murder, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, careless use of a firearm, two counts of pointing a firearm and for breaching conditions of a release order, RCMP say.

The teen and the man charged know each other, and police say there is no threat to the community as their investigation continues.
