Thelma Krull: Police locate missing woman's glasses near Valley Gardens

Winnipeg police say they have found one clue but they need more if they hope to find Thelma Krull, who has been missing since Saturday morning. 

At a news conference Wednesday, police revealed that they have located eyeglasses they believe belong to the 57-year-old woman on the grounds of the Valley Gardens Community Centre.

They are continuing to focus their search in the Valley Gardens area, the 1500 block of Regent Avenue West, and the 2000 block of Henderson Highway.

Police have taken the yellow tape down at the Valley Gardens Community Centre and are now searching north and south of Kimberley Avenue in East Kildonan.

Police are imploring the public to come forward with any information they may have about Krull's whereabouts and to check their personal property for clues, including buildings and vehicles. 

Authorities have also released a video that shows Krull walking in the Harborview South area.

Police describe Krull as 5'-4" and weighing 170 pounds with short dyed-blonde hair with a purple streak.

From the security video footage, police know Krull was wearing black capri-style pants, a reddish-orange shirt, hiking boots and glasses the morning she went missing.

Family remains hopeful

Krull's husband, Robert Krull, thanked volunteers and friends for their help in the search at Wednesday's news conference.

"Please, if you have anything. Anything. Tell the police," he said.

He said he was still sleeping when his wife left their house for a hike Saturday morning. He said they had planned to meet at Canadian Tire, she would walk there and he would drive.

The woman's daughter believes her mom is still alive but possibly injured somewhere.

Lisa Besser said police have found no signs of foul play, which gives her hope. But the situation has left her baffled.

"The past five days have just been surreal, just so frustrating," Besser said. "She's literally disappeared."

Krull was last seen at her home in the north part of Transcona, before she went on a hike. After she failed to show up for her grandson's birthday party that afternoon, family members reported her missing.

She has been training for a seven-day hike on the West Coast Trail in British Columbia.

Winnipeg Search and Rescue has also been involved, with six members combing the brush and the water of Bunn's Creek on Tuesday. They were out again Wednesday morning, combing through some green space at Concordia Avenue and Grey Street. 

Besser also organized volunteers to search areas known to be part of Krull's daily walks. Earlier this week, she said the public searches would be on hold while police investigate.
