A Winnipeg man was charged with armed robbery after police say he pointed a loaded, sawed-off shotgun at a family and robbed a man in Winnipeg over the weekend.

Around 8 p.m. on Saturday, a man armed with a gun approached the family on Carlton Street between Broadway and Assiniboine Avenue. He pointed the gun at the man, woman and their two-year-old child.

The family ran away and hid before calling police.

After that, the armed man went to a parking lot in the 400-block of Assiniboine Avenue and held a man seated in a truck at gunpoint, demanding he turn over some of his property, then he left the area.

Police officers found him and the gun.

A 56-year-old man was charged with armed robbery using a prohibited firearm, possession of a loaded prohibited firearm and two counts of failure to comply with a probation order, among other offences.

He was detained in custody.
