Violent assault in Montreal now a homicide after victim succumbs to injuries
54-year-old man was bleeding profusely when found early Monday morning, police say

A 54-year-old man has succumbed to injuries days after being assaulted in Montreal's Plateau-Mont-Royal borough.
On Monday at around 1:30 a.m., officers with the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal responding to a 911 call found the victim, who was bleeding profusely and already being treated by paramedics near the corner of Park Avenue and Milton Street.
He was rushed to hospital where he remained in critical condition for several days. The 54-year-old died on Saturday.
A few hours after the assault, police arrested a 34-year-old man, who will likely face new charges in connection with the incident.
On Friday, Montreal police reported the 11th homicide of the year on its territory, but the 54-year-old man's death is being logged as this year's 10th homicide even though he died on Saturday.
That's because the deadly assault took place before the city's most recent killing and police say they knew the victim would eventually die due to the severity of his injuries.
Police also say no weapon was used in the attack.
