A 38-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a fake bomb threat targeting the Montreal courthouse Wednesday, police say.

Montreal police said in a news release Friday that he was arrested Thursday morning, appeared in court and was charged with public mischief and uttering threats.

He will remain in custody pending further proceedings, the news release says.

The threatening call was made to 911 at around 8:40 a.m. on Wednesday. The courthouse is located on Notre-Dame Street East in the Ville-Marie borough.

Checks inside and outside the building by special constables and police turned up nothing suspicious.

The investigation was then handed over to Montreal police detectives to identify the person who allegedly made the threats. They teamed up with a cyber crime unit and made the arrest within 24 hours, police say.
