Montreal SPCA slams Bromont pit bull ban
Over 1,700 people have signed petition to see pit bull ban decision reversed
The Montreal SPCA wants the town of Bromont to withdraw a new municipal bylaw that bans residents from adopting or buying pit bull dogs.
Bromont joined about other 50 other municipalities in Quebec which don't allow the breed. Councillors voted unanimously to ban the dogs and the bylaw came into effect on Jan.15.
The SPCA wrote on its Facebook page that breed-specific legislation is discriminatory.
"It discriminates against responsible dog guardians, and well-behaved dogs simply because of the dog's appearance," wrote the SPCA.

A petition against the ban has gathered over 1,700 signatures.
