A 53-year-old taxi driver was stabbed during an armed robbery in Pointe-aux-Trembles, around 9 p.m. Friday night.

Police say two passengers, a man and a woman, asked to be driven behind an apartment building on Sherbrooke Street near 47th Avenue.

When they got there, the man allegedly threatened the driver with a sharp object, while the woman took all of the valuables in the taxi.

Montreal police spokesperson Daniel Lacoursière told CBC that the altercation then turned violent.

"At a certain moment during the theft, the male suspect stabbed the victim, in the lower body. After this aggression, both suspects fled the scene."

He was transported to hospital, but his injuries are not said to be life-threatening.
