'Kids, I will not let you down,' P.K. Subban tells patients at Montreal Children's Hospital
Star defenceman promises to continue fundraising efforts despite being traded to Nashville
NHL defenceman P.K. Subban says he remains committed to the raising money for the Montreal Children's Hospital despite being traded by the Canadiens to the Nashville Predators in June.
Nearly a year after making a $10-million fundraising pledge, the beloved former Hab returned to the hospital to give an update on his charitable work.
"My jersey might change, but what I support will always stay the same," Subban told a news conference in the atrium named in his honour.
"Montreal, thank you for rallying around me, I couldn't have done it without you."
The hospital said his contributions so far have touched the lives of more than 9,000 families, paying for everything from parking vouchers to respiratory equipment.
Subban said his charity has raised a total of $1.4 million.

He plans to regularly return to the hospital and follow through on his pledge to raise $10 million.
"My biggest worries are the people that need help," he said.
"Kids, I will not let you down."
Subban said he's looking forward to a fresh start with the Predators, playfully joking he would visit Montreal if he wins the championship.
"If I win a Stanley Cup this year, there is no doubt it's coming back here," he said.
