Man arrested after fleeing collision scene in stolen Montreal police cruiser
Police had been called after vehicle struck a cyclist in Plateau-Mont-Royal borough
A 32-year-old man was arrested after fleeing the scene of an accident in a stolen police cruiser in Montreal's Plateau-Mont-Royal borough.
Police say they were called around 4:50 pm after a vehicle struck a cyclist near the intersection of Avenue du Parc Lafontaine and Roy Street.
When officers arrived, they exited their vehicle to establish a perimeter, and that's when the driver was able to get into the police cruiser to leave the scene, said police spokesperson Véronique Dubuc.
Police say the driver was stopped minutes later at the intersection of Papineau Avenue and Gilford Street.
While behind the wheel of the cruiser, the driver damaged several other vehicles and injured a 25-year-old woman who was in her car.
Police say the man was detained and is expected to face a number of charges, including impaired driving.
