Convicted murderer caught after escaping prison in Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines, Que.

A 62-year-old convicted murderer has been caught after escaping the minimum-security unit at Archambault Institution in Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines, Que., about 40 kilometres northwest of Montreal.

A 62-year-old convicted murderer has been caught after escaping the minimum-security unit at Archambault Institution in Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines, Que., about 40 kilometres northwest of Montreal. 

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) said Richard Plourde was not accounted for at the multi-level security federal institution during the 11 p.m. count on Sunday.

By Monday, at around 3:40 p.m., he was apprehended by the Sûreté du Québec.

The CSC is conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, it says in a Monday news release.

Plourde is currently serving a life sentence for second-degree murder, according to CSC.
