Inmate who escaped Stony Mountain Institution back in custody

A man who escaped from Stony Mountain, a federal prison in Manitoba, on Monday has been captured.

A man who escaped from a federal prison in Manitoba on Monday has been captured.

Jason Vanwyck, 41, was taken into custody by Winnipeg police around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, the Correctional Service of Canada said in a news release.

Staff at the prison, which is about 10 kilometres north of Winnipeg, realized that Vanwyck was gone on Monday, Corrections Canada previously said.

Vanwyck is currently serving a two-year, 25-day sentence for charges related to assault with a weapon, uttering threats, breaking and entering, theft under $5,000 and mischief, Corrections Canada said.

The circumstances around his escape are being investigated, the news release said.
