Montreal teen dies after being struck by car while riding e-scooter

According to initial reports, the teen was attempting to cross Lachapelle Street when a car collided with him.

A teenage boy has died after being hit by a car while riding his electric scooter in Montreal's Ahuntsic-Cartierville borough Monday evening. 

Police say the 14-year-old was struck near the intersection of Lachapelle and Émile-Nelligan streets in the northern Montreal borough around 6:50 p.m. 

According to initial reports, the teen was attempting to cross eastbound on Lachapelle Street when a car collided with him, police say. 

The teen was rushed to hospital where he later died of his injuries, police said Tuesday. 

The scene was protected as investigators worked to understand the circumstances surrounding the event. 

In an update Tuesday, police described the event as a bad accident, adding there is nothing to suggest the driver committed an infraction.
