A 64-year-old pedestrian was transported to hospital in serious, but stable condition after being struck by an allegedly impaired driver late Tuesday in downtown Montreal.

The driver has since been arrested and is expected to face charges for impaired driving and failing stop at the scene of an accident, police say.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:30 p.m., according to Montreal police spokesperson Const. Raphaël Bergeron.

The motorist was driving north on Berri Street when they struck the pedestrian in a location where there is no crosswalk between de Maisonneuve Boulevard East and Ontario Street East.

After the impact, the driver did not stop, police say. The driver allegedly left the victim lying in the road, but she was spotted by officers a short time later.

They quickly pulled her over and placed her under arrest, Bergeron said.
